Ole Wanscher
Ole Wancher (1903-1985) was a Danish architect and professor of architecture with furniture design as his speciality. He came to shape Danish furniture, both as an active designer and as a master teacher and his furniture designs are now considered to be modern classics - sophisticated and functional with an exquisite attention to detail. Construction and form were of utmost importance to him - treating furniture like a branch of architecture. In 1958 the Danish paper Politiken wrote 'Owning a Wanscher-chair is an adventure every day, and will be so even several hundred years from now, for this is how long it lasts.' Praise indeed! His quest for slim dimensions and resilient form is fully realised in his Colonial collection for Carl Hansen.
