Description
Designed by Simon Legald, the Normann Copenhagen Ark Sofa is a configurable, modular piece characterised by plump cushions and an airy base. Curvacious and voluptuous, Ark is simultaneously minimalistic and full of depth.
With its rounded, organic form, it appears to be built almost entirely out of cushions, creating a soft, welcoming expression. This sofa encourages you to sit back and relax. Each module appears to be constructed from neat, angular pieces. The seat, back and armrests all appear to be separate, neatly arranged pillows. The simplicity of the design radiates sophistication and elegance.
Ark gets its name from the Danish word for arches. The subtle sway of the cushions creates a distinct, visual softness that gesticulates at the equally soft sitting comfort. Available in a series of attractive fabrics finished in a wide variety of colours.

Simon Legald was born in 1986 and raised in Fløng, Denmark. He graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 2012. During his studies, he completed an internship at Normann Copenhagen. Today, he works as a Senior Designer at Normann Copenhagen's internal design studio.

Simon Legald
Simon Legald is a graduate of The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and designs both small and large-scale products. Simon’s designs marry together craftsmanship and industry; he also likes to incorporate the techniques that are necessary for the structure of a product into the design by highlighting them visually.
Simon has designed some real classics in contemporary Scandinavian design including the block table, amp lamp and the furniture range, 'Form'. The Form range was, in fact, Legald’s dissertation project and after three years of development, it was taken into production by Normann Copenhagen. For Legald, people need to understand his designs and their functions. He keeps his plans simple and straightforward, displaying the technicalities instead of hiding them. “I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
