Muuto Folded Shelf designed by Johan Van Hengel
For those who aren't yet aware, Muuto is a Scandinavian design company that works with leading contemporary designers to create original products with new perspectives. The result is an innovative, aesthetic and functional collection of New Nordic furniture, lighting and accessories for modern interiors all over the world. One of our favourites from the collection this year is the beautifully engineered Folded Shelf designed by dutch designer Johan van Hengel.Folded is a sophisticated shelving system with architectural details
With the Muuto Folded Shelf, Johan van Hengel has designed a decorative and functional shelving system designed to accommodate the desire to organise and display essential everyday objects. A practical shelving unit for storing and exhibiting anything from postcards to perfumes, Folded adds a personal touch to any room. An innovative bending technique gives this shelf its unique, minimalist aesthetic, almost like that of a paper envelope.

What Johan van Hengel says about his Muuto Folded Shelf
Van Hengel is driven by a desire to enrich everyday objects with new layers of sophistication, individuality and meaning. With a focus on function, materiality and technique, he invests everyday shapes and objects with a subtle element of surprise. The Folded Shelf is his first design for Muuto and here's what he had to say on the design : "Inspired by the shadow-play of layers, FOLDED is based on a seemingly simple bending technique of a single sheet of metal to create pockets which hold and separate your items. Featuring a subtle bolt and hooks for hanging objects, it is a versatile wall mount that can be used in both a practical and a decorative manner -suitable for organising anything from mail to books, perfumes or spices, or just displaying your favourite belongings, in the hallway, bathroom, bedroom or kitchen".
