Introducing &Tradition Copenhagen | Creating Future Classics
“We all seek to surround ourselves with things we love. Collecting objects with meaning. Designs that resonate with our soul. Pieces reflecting different facets of our personality…” - Martin Kornbek Hansen, Founder of &Tradition
Who are &Tradition?
Danish design company &Tradition, previously known as Unique Copenhagen, was established in 2010 with a mission to combine tradition with innovation. Merging the past with the present, &Tradition made their mark on the design world with a unique approach that revolutionised the industry as we know it today.
By juxtaposing solid handicraft with modern design, the company manufactures contemporary furniture and lighting collaborations with both emerging and established designers, including Anderssen & Voll, Jaime Hayon, Verner Panton and Arne Jacobsen.
Challenging the limits of function, form and materials, &Tradition handpicks design talent both internationally and across the ages.
Connected by a desire to push manufacturing techniques and to find innovative uses for materials, &Tradition continues to add designers to their collaborative roster as part of their ethos to embrace new perspectives, creating collections where the present plays with the past in a playful yet emotive and serene way.
Why are they called ‘&Tradition’?
The name &Tradition is intimately linked to the very mission of the company: marrying traditional designs from the avant-garde masters of yesterday with innovative pieces from the talents of tomorrow.
“We connect with the old masters while giving space to new designers to define future classics.”
What makes their products unique?
Inspired by their Nordic heritage where craft meets art, function meets form and material meets potential, &Tradition aims to bridge these values to contemporary design. Through utilising and combining new materials, the Danish company uncovers revolutionary techniques and breaks boundaries in manufacturing, creating a truly unique position in the international design market.
“Our vision is to carry on the tradition of fine craftsmanship as well as introducing our design heritage to a new generation of conscious consumers.”
Where is their furniture made?
&Tradition furniture is crafted through an international network of designers, while still remaining true to their Nordic roots. Challenging the limits of function, form and materials, &Tradition scouts for design talent beyond borders, handpicking production facilities that will provide the finest quality, wherever they are.
What materials do they use?
&Tradition believes that furniture that should be made to last. Influenced by its Nordic roots, the design company prides itself on sustainable production and a respect for nature that provides raw materials, including brass, oiled oak, walnut, marble and steel.
Is their furniture made to order?
All &Tradition furniture is made to order with a lead time of 3-4 weeks. This helps to reduce unwanted waste and gives you more choice in terms of finishes. As the old saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait”.
